Helaire David Family Estate - 1911

Description: The original structure contained a central hall, living room, parlor, kitchen and three bedrooms downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. An addition of a wing on the left side of the house provided three more bedrooms. The addition was completed about 1911.

The house featured Victorian ornamentation including turned posts with brackets, a pierced apron on the front gable and hexagonal bay. There are also decorative metal attic vents along the peak of the roof.

Part of the residence was rented to boarders (teachers from other towns in the area) for a time and daily meals were served to travelers in the family dining room.

This photo is part of the permanent collection on display at the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court office in the Parish Courthouse. Clerk of Court O.C. Guilliot has completed 650 photographs from the collection into a hard boulnd book, "Images de Lafayette." It is on sale at local bookstores.
