Etienne Thomas David, the 6th son and 9th child of Jean Pierre David and Marie Magdelaine Monmellian, was born on 20 December 1730 at Louisbourg and baptized the following day, 21 December 1730. His godparents were Sieur Estienne Caesar Leverrier and Anne Benoist. Fre Zacharie Caradec, Recoleta Vicar General and Parish Priest of Louisbourg presided at the baptism. Witnesses attending the baptism were Thomas Verrier and Magdeleine La Rivieri.

The Louisbourg Smallpox Epidemic of 1732 and 1733

During 1732 and 1733, a smallpox epidemic sweep through Louisbourg causing the deaths of 151 inhabitants. It is said to have been carried to Louisbourg on the King's ship Les Rubis. There is the possibility that this smallpox epidemic was the reason for additional great sorrows within this David family.


The Death of Magdeleine

In 1733, Jean Pierre and Marie Magdelaine tragically buried 2 additional children with the deaths of their 1st daughter, Magdeleine, on 09 February 1733 at the age of 12 years and their last born child, Etienne Thomas.

On 01 April 1733, at the infant age of 2 years, Etienne Thomas passed away, 1 month and 24 days after his older sister Magdeleine died at the young age of 12. Besides what is recorded here, very little else has been yet uncovered as to the infant years and the death of Etienne Thomas David.
